Throughout the Holy Quran, when Allah commands the believers to observe prayer (Salah), fast (Sawm), or pay zakah, He directs creation to act. But when commanding Salawat (الصلاة على النبي ﷺ) upon the Final Messenger, the Lord of the worlds initiates the action Himself: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet; O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with peace."
Classical commentators such as Imam Ibn Kathir and Abu al-'Aliyah clarify the linguistic theological distinction:
- Allah's Salah: His divine praise, elevation of rank, and mercy upon the Prophet ﷺ before the highest assembly of archangels (Al-Mala' al-A'la).
- The Angels' Salah: Their continuous supplication for forgiveness and blessing upon him.
- The Believers' Salah: Our heartfelt prayer asking Allah to shower infinite peace, honors, and love upon our beloved guide ﷺ.
